Mental Health

Work constitutes a central component in the wellbeing of population and every individual person. Good mental health increases general wellbeing and reduces mental strain at individual, communal and societal levels. Mental disorders are causing an increasing number of sick leaves and disability pensions. Productivity in work life is directly connected to the mental health of Finnish population.

Improvements in mental health at national level increase the sustainability of Finnish society, which is emphasized especially during crises and adversities. In addition to social and health services, the means to improve mental health include supporting access to work and improvements in occupational wellbeing. Productivity costs can be significantly reduced by investing to the improvement of mental health, the mechanisms that support return to work among those with partial work ability, and general mental health services.
